Materials

If not mentioned otherwise, high quality and worldwide valued blades which Rautarasa finishes are made by Laurin metalli from Kauhava.

All blades are available as tradiotional carbon (80CrV2. 0,8% carbon, 0,6% Chrome and 0,15% vanadium) or easy care stainless (X50CrMoV15. 0,5% carbon, 15% chrome and samall amounts of molybdene and vanadium) steel.

Wood is always used as a material for Rautarasa Aito- and Rautarasa Helmi knives. Wood is treated with wood oil, which enhances its natural beauty.

Sheats are vegetable tanned leather and contain always a wooden, oliled reinforcement. 1mm linen thread is used in stitches.

Flamed birch

Wood is very thick and fine grained. Flamed birch forms a special wavy or blazing pattern. Turns darker and yellow when aging.

Heated flamed birch

Heat treated flamed birch. Darkness varies from brown to almost black.

Curly birch

Silver birch mutation. Beautiful and traditional handle material.

Heated curly birch

This makes a nice combination with a regular curly birch in Rautarasa Helmi knife. Darkness varies.

Oak

Alternating brown tones and impressive grain structure.

Teak

Light or dark brown. Annual rings are clearly visible.

Padouk

Grain is usually straight. With a coarse open texture. Color can vary from pinkish orange to a deep brownish red.

Merbau

Dark reddish brown containing lighter stripes.

Walnut

Light- or greyish Brown.

Brass is used for metal parts of the handle.
